 Subject:  Thank You...Safe and Sound

Frank

Thanks so much! I received my Delta Rocket today .....Customs didn't even open it, and we paid
no duty tax .....it arrived in perfect condition.

I'm enthralled with the quality of workmanship. It it a marvelous instrument. I love it. We have
the Spring Festival and Chinese New Year coming up Jan. 23rd ....I have 8 days off from teaching.
I'm sure I'll spend the entire 8 days with the guitar. I don't know how Xiao Hui will feel ....actually
she doesn't mind at all :)

Thank you so much for the extra sets of GHS strings .....and the Tribo tone slide is fantastic.

This guitar is loud and the sustain is great ......I can only say I'm enthralled, and it won't be the
last Republic Guitar I purchase from you.

Frank can you pls give me some advice about how to change the strings so I don't lose the intonation?

The Neck on this thing is a hand full ......feels really good ....the action is perfect. This thing really
growls in an open C tuning.......

I just can't say enough ....I appreciate the way you've taken the time to reply to my email and the
advice about the open E tuning ....Frank is that the open E is too much for the neck ......to keep it
tuned in open E for an extended period?

Frank the strings are they  special for Resos' .....I know you said they were GHS .....is the gauge .056
013?

My girlfriend Xiao Hui really also appreciates the help you've given us. She has a good relationship
with China customs .....she knows the boss there .....so they didn't even open it, and said no duty
tax needed to be paid.

Thanks again Frank for a very beautiful and great sound Reso. All the best to you and your family.

Frank.....it only took the 3-5 business as you said it would.

Kind Regards,

Joe and Xiao Hui

Hi Frank

The guitar arrived safely about a week ago. I’ve been playing it a lot, and everything is just fine. Thanks for a great instrument, and for looking after the sale and shipping so quickly. Could you tell me what strings you put on it?

Many thanks

Hi Frank,

I received my guitar today! All I can say is WOW! This guitar is amazing! I have played and researched resonator guitars for a while now. The seams on the body are flawless and solidly built along with the head and neck that feels like a dream. The tones that I can get exceeded my expectations! I would Have thought this guitar would cost thousands of dollars because it is such a nice piece of machinery. Meaning, I hope some day you can get what these guitars are really worth, although I very much appreciate the reasonable price they are right now.
You have a long time customer and spokesman here in Utah. I will refer everyone I can!

My next buy will a highway 61 or a regular single cone 14 fret.

Thanks!!!

Hello Frank, My name is Alex ‘Riverside jr” Konijnenburg from the Netherlands. I’m very good friends with Dutch bluesguitarist Peter Struijk, We did several recordings and gigs together and we are touring France in summer together with a band..Peter played a republic classic tricone on a few songs on my last album. I also play guitar(s) as well as singing. Now I finally have my own classic tricone from your company! I bought it from a guy from Belgium (in Holland there’s no rep. dealer) and it’s a 2005 model in mint condition.I wanted to let you know that I’m completely blown away by this guitar.I’ve had some reso’s in the past, including new and old Nationals but as far as tone goes this republic outplayes them, it’s that good! And the playability is superb. I’m planning to take it with me as my main acoustic on all coming shows in the Netherlands, Belgium and France and you can be sure I’ll pass the secret about the quality of Republic. Thank you very much, I ‘m sure this won’t be my last Republic guitar! If you like it I can send you our last album “Hard Times” witch contains recordings with the Republic. This album was received very well in Holland and by international blueslovers and radiostations (www.bigwill.nl ). Ok Frank, good luck with your business and keep on building these excellent guitars! All the best! Grtz Alex “Riverside jr”.

Frank

I just wanted to let you know now that I've really had a chance to play the Delta Rocket it is
no less than awesome!!! I can't seem to put it down!!!

The concern I had is not  problem at all it seemed the b string was slipping a bit .....could just
be the wrap, but over all that guitar just stays in tune. I mean I let it rip, played her real
hard .....

I've only played two Nationals before, I owned the Taupe model they used to make a single cone
steel body, and a wood body Estralita ....that was yrs. ago. Back then they 1375.00 USD a piece.
And I have to tell you the Republic Guitars sounds every bit as good ......

I love the sustain on the Rocket .......and she is loud. The neck is a handful, feels good, wonderful.

Just a real pleasure Frank .....a beautiful instrument. This will not be the last Republic Guitar
I buy.

Frank, the clip on tuner with the Piezo Transducers? I think they're a bit tricky in that they pick up
the natural occurring overtones when the string is plucked and left to ring which makes them appear
to wave sharp/flat a bit. The Planet Waves tuner I picked up here seems to be fine.

Thanks again for this beautiful instrument! Best wishes for your growing company and success
in the years to come .....and a belated Happy New Year to you and your family!

Regards,

Joe

Hi Frank,

I received my package yesterday in good condition.  It was so well packed I could barely get it out of the box.  I got to sit with it about a half hour last night and about the same this morning.  I think I may have liked the chrome finish better but just as well because I can spend more time playing and less polishing.  Everything appears to be fine.  It will probably be Saturday b/4 I get to spend any real time playing it or rather learning to play it.  I can't imagine that there is anything wrong with it.  We didn't discuss turn around time on your return policy but I don't think it matters because unless I found something very wrong, I don't think I could return it.  It's a nice guitar for the money and hell for the money if I get any good at it I could see owning a several of these.

Thank you for throwing in the case, DVD and for the discounted price.  I can't think of anything but good things to say about you and I'm sure a lot of other folks feel the same way.

Thanks

Mike Allen

My second Republic guitar arrived this week in good shape. A beautifull tricones, 3 weeks ago in the USA, now in The Netherlands.

Nice sound, more jazzy than the singlecone. Just as I hoped. Both great guitars with a own karakter.

Thanks again for the nice guitar & wonderfull transaction. I will be your ambassador in The Netherlands.

Subject: Triolian Arrived

Hi Frank,
Your 12 fret steel bodied Triolian (#904) arrived this afternoon in perfect shape.
It is a real beauty with the dark green burst finish and the set-up seems to be perfect.
I love the neck feel and profile.  I wish all of my guitars had that same profile.  Just great.

After the holidays are over and we all catch our breath, I hope that you have the #901 12 fret wood body Triolians in the dark green burst still in stock.  My next Republic purchase right sometimes in January.

Then the big decision, a steel body or brass body classic Tricone.
I'm hooked on Republics.

Where/how can I purchase one of your Republic Guitar t-shirts?
And do you recommend anyone special for a good quality glass bottleneck slide?  Time to move on from my current cheapie.

Thanks again for providing us with great customer service and great resonator guitars.
Enjoy the holidays and a Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Warmest regards,
Brian Neely

Hi Frank !

I'm a professional Musician and also a qualified Guitar Teacher in Austria(Middle Eurpoe).
Most of the time I play Rock & Blues Music Concerts.
I've got my own recording studio and sometimes when I've got time I play Musical arrangments.
About 7/8 years ago I used to have a Dire Straits Coverband. We stopped playing after two years.
This year we decided to get the band back together.
And I knew I needed a new guitar....that one on the cover of the brothers in arms album !!

I've listened to a lot of resophonic guitars on the internet and I've tried a National Style'O', but I liked the sound of your guitars the best !
So in August I ordered a Republic Style'O' with the palm pattern.
When I got the guitar I was really amazed about the sound for the little money and I thought I've to please the guitar with a proper pickup.
So I drove to Germany to get a Highlander pickup, back to Vienna to get it built in and straight to my recording studio to check the sound and it blew me away, because it sounded like it should sound and for the very first time i played the Dire Straits Song 'Romeo and Juliet' for real !

Whenever I play a concert, people are really amazed about the guitar. It's a real attraction on stage, so we always get a spot light on it...

Thank you for building good affordable guitars !
Please check out the picture I sent you aswell !

Cheers
Mario Machacek

Frank, you made me the Christmas hero.  My husband LOVES his new guitar.  It really perked him up and has him playing everyday.  The parlor size is just perfect.  I knew it would be great for taking out and about, but with him so weak after his cardiac arrest, it is the perfect size for him to be able to sit in his comfy chair and play.  The tone is beautiful and he couldn't be happier.  Many, many thanks to you for this beautiful instrument.

Thanks,

Frank:

I received the Resolian #314, which sounds great.  I have two questions.

What brand and gauge of strings are on the instrument?  When it comes time to change the strings, I don't want to mess up the intonation.

Is there anything special to know or to watch out for when changing strings on a resonator guitar like the Resolian?

Thanks.

WHAT a GUY! I've never had this happen unless I was the one selecting the guitar from several. You just don't know how happy that has made me. I was already impressed with the videos posted by BottleneckJohn. I know they use really nice mic set ups to record themselves which enhances the outcome..... I've always thought this design should be a winner.

Maybe I won't need the new Hot Rod cone, I can put it in my El Troubador, #52, that Lenny sold me.... it came with a crushed cone, lol. It was just beginning to collapse which is why I've never gotten full tone from this one.

I'm going to try a set of Nickel strings 0.15 - 0.58. on the Rocket. I like the sound of a heavier set.

I want to say.... it's been a real pleasure dealing with you Frank! After getting the run around from
Dec. 2 / Dec. 29th there is no comparison. I'm sorry about wasting your time in the beginning. I figured that even if it was gotten from Lenny, you still sold a guitar so I didn't feel like I was doing you wrong in asking questions. My only reason for going with him was to get the old toned down finish to make it less shiny. I'm pretty sure that after a few of my friends play it, some of them will probably want one. I will send them your way if that happens.

She looks and sounds great. Great price - value balance Frank!

1 question; what is the average 12th fret action if you want low action (still able to play open tuning slide without buzzing)?

Thanks again and all the best in 2012!

Thanks Frank,

The string order arrived today. I put on the 15-62 Baritone set and have it down to C & will never take it over an F for sure. This thing growls like a dinosaur in surround sound. If you listened to it before you shipped it, you really wouldn't know it now. It has more than doubled in volume and the tone is strong & definitely medieval. When I hit it pretty good, it rolls on & on like rolling thunder.

If you like, I'll let you know how it goes later on so you will have first hand feedback on how heavier strings work on the Rockets.  I've measured the string height in several places along the finger board & body. I will run a check on these spots fairly often to see if these strings are pulling it out of shape or going to twist the neck. Seems like it's going to be fine so far?

Phil Cook from Megafaun here, just wanting to make sure you know how great your guitar has been to me.  It's been over a year and a half since I bought one from you and I continue to play it every single day.  I started playing solo shows a little while back and my Republic is featured prominently in my set along with banjo and flat-top compositions.  I just played at McCabe's guitar shop in Santa Monica and saw that they carry your stuff.  Been tossing between saving for either a Resolian or a Tricone next time I'm through Dallas.

The new megafaun record is out and has been getting great reviews all over.  I'd like to send you one if you shoot me the address.  The steel is all over it.

Hope your family and business are doing well and I'm spreading the word each time I can.

Here's some recordings I made with my Republic.  I play it on the songs, "Ballad of a Hungry Mother" as well as "The Jensens"

Hello Frank,

I got the guitar today.  It is truly fantastic.  Having owned a Regal RC2 round-neck dobro, I was pretty much expecting the same.  But the quality on the Republic is a lot better and the tone is exquisite!  Perfectly set up as well.

What guage did you say the strings were?  I want to make sure that when I do change I keep the same type and size on there.  Speaking of string changing.  On this guitar, do you do one string at a time? Or cut all off and then put a new set on?

Thanks again.

One day...I will buy the wood-bodied guitar from you...which would you recommend?  One day may come sooner than we think.

Hi Frank!
Guitar arrived today, took 5 minutes to unpack, another 10 minutes just staring at it, then another 5 minutes and half a pack of Kleenex to wipe my drool off it. Looks beautiful!
Love the antique steel finish on the style 804!
Then I played it. Beautiful rich tone, action exactly how I like it. My wife said "That's the sexiest guitar you've ever owned" and I tend to agree.

Only problem I have is the body. Not the guitar's body, mine. Apparently I have to put food in it to stay alive, however eating would involve putting the guitar down.
Wife refuses to hand-feed me sandwiches so I can keep playing.

I thought this would be a great guitar and it has far surpassed my expectations! Nice case too and thanks for the T-shirt. Will be highly recommending Republic on my website!

Thank you again!

PS What make and type of string have you got on this? Feels like 13-56 gauge, and I presume it is phosphor-bronze?

Hi Frank,
I live on the Monterey Peninsula (California), and often take it to a bench by the beach to practice. You wouldn't believe the show stopper my Republic Guitar has become. I have had SO many photos taken by tourists I have lost count. Everyone comes up and wants to know about it. It really is a beauty. (I have the moon and stars bronze colored model). I can't thank you enough for how much pleasure this sweet guitar is bringing to me!

Here is a clip of my new favorite cover tune that I am trying to master.

Hi Frank

I just wanted to let you know that the Miniolian has arrived at my friends. Her partner had a good look and play on it, and was impressed. This is what he said:

The case is nice with 4 latches one on the hinge side.I went ahead and tuned it up and played it.I like the small body size with the contoured back as well as the inlay around the edge of the bodies top and the S/F holes. It's a loud guitar and I love the natureal reverb created by the resonater. The treble strings seem to be much louder then the bass strings.Differant strings may help that as I'm sure you know.Last year an old friend ordered a metal body reso. guitar from National. It took about 8 months to come. The workmanship was class A with mother of pearl all up the neck and completely covering the head stock. He said he paid around $3,500.00 for it.But I tell you,I feel that this Republic guitar is better balanced and has better action.I think you will be happy with it,

I'm looking forward to taking possesion of it soon! Thanks for all your help.,

regards

Hi Frank...

Finally, my babes are with me. I was playing the last two hours. I really appreciate you for the package. Thank you so much for both hard cases. I've the Miniolian in a Standard tuning and the Tricone in a Open G tunning. I can't believe how powerful they are. The best news is that I've never played so nice. Now I know that I was not the problem, it was for the guitars! I've always wanted a guitar with the neck as wide, and now I have them. All my songs and my music sound just like always sound in my mind and not in my hands. Now I have what I've always wanted.

Thank you for helping lost blues players to be happier all around the world.

I promise you videos soon. And, I'm sure, we're in touch for next business.

I'm happy. Thank you Frank.

Hi, Frank
The brown truck pulled up today while I was home for lunch and dropped off my Tricone #203. I had a few minutes left before I had to go back to work so I pulled it out of the box to get a quick look at it. When I opened the case my jaw dropped, this thing looked way cooler than I could have imagined. The aged steel finish looks awesome, pictures on the website don’t do it any justice.

The rest of my day at work just drug on, but finally 5:00 rolled around and I rushed home and got this thing tuned up (open D) and it sounds great, I love the tone and the sustain. There is no buzzing, the neck is very straight, and the fretwork is perfect. I could not be happier.

Thank you so much for this great guitar, it was a pleasure doing business with you.  Jeff Meriedth

Frank,               I talked with you earlier about highway 61’s with a full scale neck.  Rather than waiting for a rustic steel version  to come in I began looking all over the country, I found one you made earlier in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and bought it sight unseen.  That was a first for me, But I loved the sound and look from the you tube video’s of Bottleneck John.  Nevertheless, you guitar didn’t disappoint, the tone and finish are awesome, plays great, I love the rusty distressed steel finish.  It has more volume than my Yari and Gibson dreadnaughts, and the tone is bluesy without sounding Hawaiian.  I am so pleased with this tiny little beauty, best looking resonator I’ve seen and tone to match.                 Playing mostly open tunings do you have a recommendation for string gauges? Also what are your recommendations for amplifying it? Just want to plug into PA equipment ect. long term.  A very pleased customer!!!Joe Schenk

Subject: Ordering Duolian

Greetings, Frank!

A good friend of mine recently bought a Tricone resonator from your shop,
and I was totaly blown away by the sound. It's an amazing piece of craftmanship.
That is why I would also like to order the Duolian style # 804 for myself.
I just have a few questions before I make my order.

First I would like to know is it possible to send the guitar to Zagreb, Croatia
and how much would the shipping cost?
Secondly, since very few people have seen such an instrument where I live,
I don't have anyone with experience of setting up or repairing a resonator guitar.
That is why I would like to ask you if you could pick a Duolian for me, one that's
nicely set up and sounds great. I'll be using it for playing chords as well as playing with a slide,
so I would like you to set the action to match my playing preferences.

Looking forward to hearing from you as soon as possible.

best regards,

Ante Jelincic

Frank,

Ok.  I've got some friends here in the NYC area who are players of blues & jugband mandolin who would probably love your mandolians.  Yours has a truss rod which gives it an edge over the reso-mandos that Recording King and Johnson produce (those models often suffer from premature neck warpage)  I plan on showing off this one you'll send me and I'll see if I can get them to buy some of yours.

My style of mandolin playing calls for having a 2nd mandolin tuned low to play in the keys of E & A (a la Yank Rachell) so I will need to buy another one from you at some point.  I'd be proud to own the prototype of an antique brass finish mandolian at some point :)

I'm in love with the look, feel and sound of the Antique Brass finish Tricone I bought from you this Spring, so thank you.  I also play with low-tuned guitars so there's a good chance I'll buy a Lily-of-the-Valley Tricone from you next Spring.  Not to mention I'll want some single cone guitars from you eventually :)

Finally, I checked my math and 249 + 125 + 20 should come out to $394 not $396.  My mistake.  I'll send you  c.c. info on Friday

Thanks for everything,

Ernie

Frank:  I have shown my Highway 61 Model  to two performing musicians who also teach guitar here in the Oklahoma City area.  Both were blown away by my Republic Guitar.   One of the two, Randy Clemons,  performs with a classic National Tricone.  He said he would like to have a less valuable instrument to use to perform with because of the risk of damage or loss of the classic National. He commented after playing my Highway 61 model that it had a bigger voice and more rich sound that the National.  It does!    Randy at one time also owned a National originally owned by Tampa  Red. I would expect that either one or both will contact you about wanting to come Dallas to check out all of your models.   The other person is Jesse Cahn.  His mother is a blues singer of some fame from the 1960s.   Both of these guys have web sites and some presence on the web and in the Blues seen here in Oklahoma.     I told Randy to be sure to give you my name and address and that you would send me a little something if he buys.   Again, both are totally impressed and I would not be surprised if you  hear from both of them.

Hi,

I bought a 14-fret bell brass finish Duolian from Vintage and Rare Guitars in London a couple of months ago, and while playing it today I just had the urge to email and say how utterly fantastic it is. Thank you for much for making a decent working guitar that I can afford - it's really changed my playing for the better. Please feel free to post on your testimonial wall!

One question - what pickups do you recommend/endorse? I know it's best to mike up - but where I don't have the option.... I've been looking at a national hot plate - do you know whether this would fit without mods?

Thanks again,

Dear Sir/Frank,

Last May I bought a Republic roundneck (14 frets to the body) from Abacus Guitars in Gent,
Belgium. I'm very happy with it, both in playability and also soundwise.
I have a question about strings. With what gauge do you fit them out? 13?
I have the guitar tuned to an open G and play mostly slide on it. Do you have any suggestions
for strings? Would you recommend phosphorized bronze? Can I fit heavier strings on the
guitar, like 15 or 16?

Thanks in advance,
Best regards,

Good day Frank and staff and families. Just want to let you all know that the two recent guitars, #205+#801 are absolute perfect, particularly the Clarksdale  Special. It's smoking hot with an anxious amount of tone and volume, great mid range and easy playable neck. Delivery was steller, and on time, smooth, efficient service. The#801 is just the equal, perfect. My National Delphi is not as load as the #205? This makes 4 Republic instruments from you folks and have an eye on the style # 201. The cookie jars might low at this time, so we will have to wait till after Christmas, unless theirs a loyalty sale coming up? In the meantime, thank you all. P.S.,wife loves the t-shirt, wishes it came in a white background? Lawrence Ross.

Hi Frank,

My guitar arrived yesterday. I was going to email you, but I forgot, I
basically haven't put the thing down since! Easy playing instrument,
absolutely genuine sound and it looks good too!! I guess I am one of
those guys who 'used to want a National'; I don't any more. Best 50th
birthday present I could have given myself. Just remember the setup, it
is only a matter of time before I am back on the horn with you to order
a tri-cone!

Add to that the fact that dealing with you and your company was a
positive experience right down the line and the whole deal was just a
joy. Thanks so much, take care.

All the best,

Hello Frank, I just wanted to respond and tell you how pleased I am with my new steel tricone!  The UPS guy left it right where I wanted until I got home tonight.  Outstanding packing job!!!  After getting it all unpacked, I was very pleased with the looks, and even more with the sound after I got it tuned up and put the slide to it!  I’m looking forward to playing around with this fine model 203 for many many years.  Best of luck to you and your fine company!  I’ll back you up on your product at any time. Thanks again Frank,  Garrett

Hey Frank,

I really enjoyed talking resonators with you today as I always do, and
I just wanted to tell you what a great guitar the Resolian is. I have
had it for 2 years now and I feel remiss for not having written sooner
with a testimonial, but my main excuse (and I know there are a lot of
Republic guitar owners out there that will know what I'm talking
about) is that I spent all of my free time playing it for 3 months
after receiving it.

It is such a GEM! The tone is heavenly and the sustain is hypnotic,
your guitars stand up to any and all resonators on the market (I
promised I would not say the "N" word). I own a bunch of resos and
tinker with them as well, so I appreciate the finesse the you have
shown in designing these elegant and affordable instruments. My next
guitar will be the Highway 61 3/4 model because I love the smaller
scale guitars and want a Republic guitar that has a narrower neck for
playing fingerstyle and is eminently portable. After that I would love
a Cutaway Tricone and if you design another unique "niche" resonator,
I'll probably want that too.

I think I better cool down now, all I really want to say is thanks,
Frank...You rock,
-Wally McGrady

Hi Frank,

The guitar is fabulous!  I put different strings on it and lowered the saddle a bit and now it suits me perfectly.  I was wondering if you had the Schatten NR-2 Std (passive) with the MVC Jack Assembly in stock.  I think I would prefer that model so that I don't have to open up the guitar again to install the jack assembly inside.  I have a tricone that I have installed the TC Pro (passive) with the MVCplus Jack Assembly and Volume Control on and I like it quite a bit but I don't see the need for the volume control.  I run through a Trace Elliot 100 watt acoustic amp and I use an Ultrasound DI plus pre-amp in-line.  I would use the same setup with the NR-2.

Thanks for the info and the guitar - excellent!

Frank;

The Resolian arrived late yesterday - Thanks! beautiful guitar - love the neck shape, look and finish, and the `pearlized' headstock plate - intonation is good (I'm an intonation `hawk'), tuners seem to be holding and the sound is what I was hoping for to complement my mellower wood bodied spider and Martin acoustic. Now to learn how to coax the best from it! Thanks, too, for setting it up per my general and somewhat vague instructions. I may make a minor action adjustment at the bridge , but it's close, especially for slide higher on the neck, while still being good for fretting lower down. Stamping what I assume is the setup date on the headstock end is a nice personal touch!

You've hit on a good value - designing, monitoring construction craftsmanship from a less expensive overseas workforce (based on what I've read) and personalized setup and service before sending the guitar out to the customer.

Very nice - Thanks

Frank, it arrived in great shape! I'm pushing 70 years old and have accumulated (way too many) guitars and banjos. Some may be quite valuable now.  I cannot remember *any* instrument that has given me this much pleasure to play. It's almost as if we were made for each other, like a pair of comfortable shoes, its perfect in every way.

I can't stop grinning. I got it yesterday afternoon and it's now 3:00 AM here and my fingers are tired. They had better get used to it.. :)

yesterday I picked up my Miniolian from the customs. I did some minor works on the nut, and after having then played for an hour or so I fall in love with this fine little guitar. I am really delighted. And although the price for me is much higher than in the US due to shipping costs and taxes, I think it´s still a very affordable instrument. And, no doubt about that: Very desirable, too!

I already ordered a K&K Pure Resonator SB pickup, do you have any experiences with that or tips concerning installation?

Anyhow: Thank you very much,
take care,

Between myself, Bottleneck John and Cincinnati Slim we have been talking about you and your guitars. Tonight, Slim will be performing on one of your guitars. Many musicians here at the festival have never seen a resonator guitar in there life and are coming up and asking us all about them. I really think that you have a potential market here!

I will send you pics and videos real soon.

Frank,

My little Republic Resolian (#315) is the only instrument I'm playing right now. I tell them on YouTube it's because my two Nationals are locked inside my gun safe, and the lock's broken.

But really it's because I want to be really familiar with just one instrument because I've been playing "out" a little bit, and I don't want to take those big expensive guitars where they might get ripped off. Either one of my two Nationals is worth as much as my truck.

I was on your website. The guitar I play everyday you've got listed for $679, and I always tell the curious about Republic, and what truly fine instruments and bargains they are.

And by the way, I notice one important thing has been corrected on your website: Some of your guitars are now correctly described  as being made of bell brass. Mine is.

Don't know what is best, steel or brass. Both of my Nationals are steel; I honestly don't have an opinion. But I once did own a brass Dobro Duolian Model 90, and other than workmanship, what';s important -  sound and playability, this little Rebublic exceeds that Dobro handily. But the Dobro did have palm trees engraved on the back.

Anyways, thanks for bringing these in. Still love mine. Hope you get filthy rich.

Subject: Republic 7103, THANKS!

Frank, I know you only by your stellar reputation amongst Republic guitar owners and dealers, but you are apparently a mighty force of customer service, passion for resonators, and dedication to new design that delivers classic sound. I just mail ordered a Highway 61 model 7103 and picked it up yesterday. The fit and finish and set-up is superb, it plays slide and fretted like a dream, and has a tone that a National Style O or ResoRocket owner would envy. The design is very comfortable for playing - lighter than most resonators and easy to reach over with the small body size - and the dynamic volume range is excellent too. The cutaway is fantastic and lets me easily get up for high neck playing. I can hit it hard and it kicks like an old raspy National, or play with restraint and it sings a clean, sweet bell tone. Your design is genius for modernizing an old technology. The vintage look and finish are beautiful too. I look forward to many curious players wondering what and how old this thing is! At ANY price, this is a piece of musical magic. I own a newer National steel body tricone - yours is what I will be playing... There was no supporting literature with the instrument, so I have a couple questions if I may. Do you specify a string gauge or weight? It seems that since tensions vary a lot from tuning to tuning, it might not matter much, but it plays GREAT with your installed strings, which seem to be relatively light. I assume a dry damp rag is OK on wiping the metal body finish? I sweat a fair amount and usually try to remove oils/sweat from my instruments. Lastly, I would like to install a pickup for PA'd gigs. Do you have a recommendation of a Fishman, or Schatten? I do not mind installing a new plug endpin. I am a marketing guy in Minnesota with WAY too many guitars. Your instruments are superb, and website is effective, however I do believe that a couple simple sheets of paper with basic spec's and minimal tech instructions ( and invitation to other models etc...) would be a nice addition to your instruments on delivery or online. If you would like to set up a simple trade, I would be pleased to design these for you. Some merch would be good too - I would proudly buy/wear a "Republic Guitars" hat or shirt. You guys are creating a new niche for resonators offering stage quality instruments at an attainable price. More power to you all! Ross Johnson

Frank,    First I have to say I am not your, I am just starting playing guitar. I have been playing electric guitar for over 35 years.  I received my Classic Biscuit Cone on Tuesday and I had to send you an email to say thanks. I have never brought a guitar until I have played it at least 4 or 5 times at the guitar store. I had done a lot of research on the web to find a resonator (I wanted a National) that was a great guitar but would not cost me an arm and a leg. I will have to say I am more than impressed with this guitar and it exceeded all my explication (no longer want a National). If there is anyone out there that is on the fence about buying one of your guitar they should just jump in as I am sure they will not be disappointed. Your customer service was excellent, I received my guitar six days after the order and that was over a holiday weekend. You setup the guitar just the way I asked and I could not be happier.     I do have one question, what gauge strings do you ship your guitars with?      Thanks again I and am hoping we can do business again in the future. ~gene

Dear Frank,

I purchased a used Republic Miniolian a while back, and am really impressed! I told a close friend about it, and let him play it. He in turn found one for sale on eBay, and purchased it for himself. His model seemed a little earlier than mine, and has a shallower body. But I noticed on your current website that the Miniolian specification states a 3" body depth just like my friends model, where mine definitely is 4" at the bottom of the guitar. Have you gone back to a shallower body, or is my Miniolian actually the earlier version? Thanks for any information you can pass on! Both guitars are great! And we both recommend Republic Guitars to everyone who's interested!!

Hello Frank,
My name is Craig Lima and I bought a full size brass highway 61 from you earlier this year. It is probably the most amazing little guitar I've seen and heard in my whole life.

I just got married this weekend and had a band from North Carolina come out to Oakland to play my wedding. As soon as they saw the resonator, they picked it up and didn't put it down for three days. They were so enamored of it's tiny size and beautiful sound that I just had to give it to them as they were leaving to finish recording their new album and wanted to use it for that purpose. I was sad to see it go but they made it sound like I never could. I wish I had film of me giving it to them: you'd think they were going to cry.

I figured I'd get on your website and see another like it for sale but no dice. It was a full size brass body with stars and moons cut out of the resonator. It was vintage finished but I like the chrome ones too. Are you going to eventually make any more of these models with that resonator cover design?

And Deep Chatham's guitar player Julian Sikes is incredible. He is going to do great things with that little guitar on their album, trust me. Here are two videos of them.

Dear Frank,
I have just purchased a second hand 315 palour resonator which was made by yourselves.  I am absolutly astonished how good this instrument is. I have played hundreds of guitars but this really does take top prize in every respect words fail me Im soooo happy to have found it on ebay.

2 questins  1 are these still available in the UK 2 I need a strap in leather or similar as it keeps sliding off my knee How do I best attach a strap?

Hello Frank,

I just got myself a greenish Highway 61 resonator <<<<<<<<<
You don't play this instrument, it plays you !

Was lucky to find one in our little country here in Europe thru the
dedication and expertise of Abacus luthier (in Cc) here in Gent,
Belgium.

Made some recordings already and I am delighted by my purchase.

Thanks for this great instrument that kind of fills in the gap that
was left in my collection (classical guitar, folk guitar, palor
guitar, electric guitar, silent guitar, a few ukuleles and now the
cousin from America.

Purchased a Miniolian from you several years ago and haven't regretted it. Love this little reso! The sound this little Parlor size produces is unbelievable! Took it with me to the Delta for the Robert Johnson 100th birthday celebration. Have included a few picks of the event. Pictured with Robert Johnson's Grandsons - Steven & Michael. Also, a pic of me taken on the morning of May, 8th 2011 "Playin" my respects to Mr. Johnson on his 100th Birthday.

Thanks again for the great guitar! (Brass Hwy 61 is definitely next on my Got To Have list)

One question is there a serial number on the guitar? I didn't see one in the usual places and it didn't jump out and bite me.

Frank,

The guitar arrived today.  Thanks, it looks beautiful!  Looks like brass, but I’ve never seen a steel one up close so I’m sure it’s actually steel.

And thanks for the glass slide you tossed in – that will come in handy.

As you can imagine, I was anxious to get started and put the Keni Lee Burgess DVD n my computer and…BLANK!  Not a thing on it.  Any chance you could mail me a replacement?  I’d be happy to send this one back to you if you like, but I suspect it’s unusable.

Let me know, and thanks for the prompt shipping and the education you gave me by phone.

Have a great Memorial Day weekend.

Regards,

Kurt Ridder

Hi Frank,

I purchased one of your full-size steel body Highway 61 resonators
from Jimmy Wallace Guitars in January and I have been extremely
pleased with it. It's been so good to me that a bluegrass/old time
band in my college town asked me to join them in February just for the
distinctive slide sound. We have played a few gigs and everyone keeps
telling me that my guitar is hard to hear on leads but when we put a
mic to it the feedback goes crazy. What do you recommend for
amplification? I have my dad's old sm57 mic but that has the feedback
issue. I have also been researching Highlander, Fishman, and Schatten
pickups but I'm hesitant to cut the guitar since it's so nice. I just
figured I would ask you since you know this guitar better than anyone.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated and thank you for such a great
guitar!

Thanks,
Eric Martinez

Frank,
first of all I would like to thank you for the fantastic work
you're doing with your guitars.
I'm asking you an information about a Miniolian guitar. It's a
fantastic instrument, It's loud, well balanced, a real beauty. I've
started to play it also for small gigs but as you know I falled in the
most critical issue in resonator instrument: the amplification. I'm
using an SM57 directly into my SR Tech. Jam 150+ acoustic amp, but
it's a complicated arrangement...
So I'm planning to install a pickup in my miniolian guitar. I'm
looking for the most natural acoustic soud out from the amp. I know
you install schatten (NR 2?) pickup in your guitars and I would like
to know where you place the pickup in the biscuit (on the base or
directly in the saddle) and if you suggest the active or passive one.
I also would like to do the less invasive job in the guitar, so I'd
like to know where you place the endpin jack (in the same tailpiece
fixing point or where?).
In Italy there is a very poor choice for these pickup (leaving
magnetics for a more aggressive sound...), I've found Schertler basik
reso and the most popular fishman but I've also considered K&K and
schatten of course...
Do you have any impression about these?

Thanks again for your patience and help,

With Regards

Marco

Thanks again for your help, and your quick service. The guitar arrived
today in good shape- amazingly fast. It's a cool guitar. I had a few
hours to play it, and am just beginning to find its strengths. It is
quite different from the other tricone I've been playing, but I expected
that. Nice and loud, a little more raw tone.. I will need a little more
time with it to adjust my playing, but must say it is a great guitar for
the price. It smokes the Dobro I had, hands down. I'll post a review and
see if I can help spread the word. It has been a pleasure.

Hello Frank,

I recently had the pleasure of purchasing one of your guitars from Jim at Southpaw Guitars and I had a couple of questions that I'm sure only you can answer.
First, I want to say how happy I am with your fine instrument. It has surpassed my expectations for sound and feel and everyone who has seen it is struck by the great looks and superior sound.

Jim told me that this is a prototype, can you tell me something of it's pedigree?, i.e., body construction (I assume it's a steel body), build date? (it has serial #001080) plus anything else you can tell me. I notice it has a right handed neck (fret dot markers on the bottom side) Is that common practice on your left handed construction or is that due to it's being a prototype? I apologize for all of the questions, I'm just really curious about my new favorite guitar!

In closing, thanks for building a great American instrument. Everyone I know will know about your fine guitars.

Best Regards,

William Brock

Hi Frank,

I was lucky enough to find a nickel plated resolian with a pearlized headstock on consignment at my local music store. Bought it, love it. Had to replace the biscuit, It was badly bent and broken. Other than that, (not your fault), great guitar. I  play it more than my National.  For some reason, while I was cleaning it up, the  headstock logo just sort of wiped away. I didn't use anything strong to clean with, like solvents or such, but it came off.  So, my question is, do you sell replacement headstock decals? Also, it came with a nice sort of soft / hard case. Do you sell a real Hard case for the resolian?
I see your new guitars have them included. I must say, after playing Nationals and several imports, your resolian has been the best of all. Keep up the good work. I will have to save up for a highway 61. Thanks, Jeff

;)

Mr Frank, my wife Marla surprised me with the guitar this morning - I said she was sneaky, just didn't know HOW sneaky.

I appreciate you keeping the secret, it was a really really nice surprise.

It's also a fantastic guitar. The fit and finish is very nice, no stabby frets, everything was super clean, and I really dig the distressed finish. I'm usually not a big fan of the 'relic'd' guitar, but this is nice - it's not crazily overdone. Nice case too!

At any rate, I just wanted to say thanks. We have a gig in a couple days and I'm excited to be playing it!

Thanks!

Hi Frank,

This is Tom Halter from NJ. I purchased a Highway 61 from you two weeks ago. I want to say that I think this was the best buy I could have made after looking at all the resonator guitars available. As someone who plays parlor guitars a lot I love the smaller body size. and the single cone on with the tricone body is a great look. Going with the 14 fret neck was a better choice for me because I was use to playing slide on a parlor that had 14 frets, so it was a good switch over, thanks for the advice Frank.

For anyone looking at these guitars they have a nice action for being set a a medium level, I can play slide easily and also do some finger work on the neck, as someone who plays a lot of finger guitar and as a banjo player I'm very happy about that. I got the brass bell body with the antique finish, the cone cover has moon and stars on it instead of just holes. It looks great, and has everyone asking about it, and thats before I even start playing. The sound is amazing, I suggest a good set of finger picks(thumb, index, and middle finger picks), a nice thick ceramic slide, and find yourself a good empty echoing stairwell.  I have only great things to say about this guitar, thanks again Frank

Greetings Frank.

I hope all is well with you and yours.

I have recently heard one of your resolians, and was wonderfully surprised by it rich, round, powerful, and big sound.

I am doing the stage play Robert Johnson The man, The Myth, The Music. I would love to feature the Resolian in this production here in America, and abroad.

I will leave for Poland May 31, and also do festivals in Lithuania, and Ukraine. During the Summer festivals in america, and France. In October I will be presenting the Delta Guitar Slingers during the Legendary Rhythm and Blues Cruise.

I have attached my bio, and photo for your review.

Thank you for building such great guitars.

God bless, and much continued success.

Sincerly,
Vasti

 Hi Frank,

Just wanted to let you know I have had the guitar for a few weeks now and can't put it down. Really happy with it and it arrived quicker than I thought it would.

Just wanted to ask, what strings were put on it, sounds good and when one breaks want to replace them with the same. Also, what is the best method for cleaning the back of the mahonany neck?

Thanks

Alex

Hey, Man. I'm writing to say I bought a republic resonator earlier this year and couldn't be happier with it. It's amazing. I'm writing the score to a Sam Shepard play here in Los Angeles using the Republic Resonator I bought, and it's amazing. Here's a link to the promo video that was cut. I'm excited to be a part of the world you've crafted, and I hope to use more in the future!
